Founded by Fr. Quinn Enright, S.J. in 1949, XLRI-Xavier School of Management has been a model of academic success. With a background that goes back more than 70 years, XLRI has always promoted global views in management education. From the start, XLRI has had an international focus. It was the first management school in India to make its academic programs available to students from other countries. The school has a distinguished group of people on its Board of Governors, teachers, and administrators, including well-known business people, respected academics, and devoted members of the Jamshedpur Jesuit Society who have helped it grow and be successful.

The fact that XLRI has been accredited by prestigious groups like AACSB, AMBA, and NBA shows its commitment to success. The school has also been approved by the Indian Government and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). With honours like being named #9 by NIRF and #1 by IIRF in 2024, as well as #5 for MIM by QS World Ranking, XLRI continues to set standards in management education and is still a sought-after place for rising business leaders all over the world. 

XLRI's path to success includes management education innovations ahead of their time. At first, XLRI only offered management-focused courses to trade unions. Later, it added programs like Industrial Relations and Welfare, later renamed Human Resource Management. After that, the college added more management-focused classes and improved its facilities to meet the changing needs of students. XLRI has created a variety of short- and long-term classes for working leaders. These programs give workers the tools to improve their management skills and become skilled business leaders.
