Introduction

For aspiring engineers seeking to learn from one of India's most renowned engineering institutions, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is highly recommended. However, it's important to note that IITs have limited seats, making the admission process highly competitive. If you are interested in applying for the MTech program at IIT Bhubaneswar, reading this article is essential to understand the requirements and guidelines for a successful application.

MTech is short for Master of Technology, which is a postgraduate engineering degree course of 2 years (4 semesters) duration that is only offered to people with a Bachelor of technology (B.Tech) or Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree of the same or relevant specialisation. To apply to IIT Bhubneshwar’s MTech program, you must register separately on the institute’s official website and on the GATE COAP 2024 page. Online registration for GATE will open in the month of April.

It’s worth noting that applicants who graduated from IIT Bhubaneswar with a cumulative grade point average of 8.0 or better are eligible for direct admission to the MTech course at IIT Bhubaneswar. GATE scores are not required for admission to the MTech program for such candidates.

What is GATE?

GATE is an abbreviation for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is an entrance examination administered by the Indian Institute of Technology on behalf of the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India, and the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE for the purpose of determining admission to the MTech program.

This examination is intended to ascertain a student’s comprehensive understanding of a variety of undergraduate engineering and science courses in preparation for admission to a Master’s program and employment in a variety of government sectors.

GATE COAP

All admission bids are submitted by GATE via the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Following their entrance tests, candidates must register on the COAP site for inspection and acceptance by IIT Bhubaneswar.

Membership in COAP is absolutely free. The candidate is highly advised to receive a copy of the COAP 2022 information booklet and to follow the Participation Guidelines. COAP, on the other hand, is not an admissions forum for M.Tech.

It is only a method of obtaining information about the GATE Examination results and IIT Bhubneshwar’s cut-off lists. COAP registration number is a required field on the IIT Bhubaneswar website while applying for M.Tech admissions.

Part-Time M.Tech

Indeed, while IITs are renowned for their M.Tech programs, there are other options available in the country. Private institutes offer M.Tech courses with direct admission, eliminating the need for entrance exams. These courses are often known as part-time M.Tech or M.Tech for working professionals.

The part-time M.Tech program comes with several advantages, most notably the flexibility it offers to pursue the course while continuing one's job. Classes are usually scheduled on weekends or evenings, making it convenient for working individuals. The course structure combines both online and offline classes, with theoretical subjects delivered online and practical training conducted through offline sessions.

While the program is primarily designed for working professionals, non-working professionals can also apply in most colleges. The main eligibility requirement is to have completed a B.Tech or BE degree in a relevant specialization with at least 50% marks from an approved university.

Typically, the duration of the course is 2 years, divided into 4 semesters. Some universities may extend it to 2.5 years with an extra semester. The part-time M.Tech degree holds equal value to a regular M.Tech course and is recognized by the government, making graduates eligible for job opportunities in both private and government sectors.

One of the major advantages of opting for a part-time M.Tech course is the relatively lower fee compared to a regular M.Tech program. The total fee for the entire 2-year course is usually within the range of INR 1-2 lakhs, making it a more affordable option for individuals facing financial constraints while pursuing higher education.

However, it is crucial to exercise caution when selecting an institute for this course, as not all colleges have the approval to offer part-time M.Tech courses. Admission should be sought only in UGC/AICTE approved colleges to ensure the validity of the degree. Here is a list of some top UGC/AICTE approved universities in India offering part-time M.Tech courses:

Conclusion

As a result, I’ve included detailed advice on how to apply to the MTech programme at IIT Bhubaneswar. Additionally, I’d like to emphasise that you can pursue an MTech degree without taking any entrance exams, since the majority of private institutions, including Shri Venkateshwara University, do not require students to take an entrance test.

MTech part-time, MTech working professional, and similar courses are also available to students who are unable to attend regularly scheduled sessions and are managed by the university directly.

While IIT Bhubaneswar is without a doubt the best university for engineering students, other private institutions also offer comparable education at a lower cost.
