What is GATE?

GATE is an acronym for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is an entrance test administered by the Indian Institute of Technology on behalf of the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India, and the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE to determine admission to the MTech program.

This test is designed to determine a student’s complete knowledge of a number of undergraduate engineering and scientific subjects in preparation for entrance to a Master’s programme and employment in a range of government sectors.

GATE COAP

GATE submits all admission bids via the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Candidates must register on the COAP portal following their admission exams for inspection and acceptance by IIT Kharagpur. COAP membership is completely free.

The candidate is strongly encouraged to obtain a copy of the COAP 2022 information booklet and to adhere to the Participation Guidelines. COAP, on the other hand, is not a forum for M.Tech admissions.

M.Tech for Working Professionals

If you are a working professional who immediately started your career after completing your B.Tech degree and now desire to pursue higher education, M.Tech for working professionals could be an excellent choice for you. It is a part-time course specially tailored to accommodate the needs of those already employed. This program enables working professionals to obtain an M.Tech degree without having to quit their jobs. The course structure is designed to provide flexibility by combining online and offline classes.

Online classes are conducted through a digital platform known as the Learning Management System (LMS). These live video lectures are also recorded and stored on the LMS for students to access at their convenience if they miss any sessions. The LMS serves as a virtual classroom, providing access to all relevant study materials.

Offline classes are held on the campus, primarily for laboratory sessions and practical experiences. To ensure work-study balance, all classes are scheduled on weekends or during evenings, depending on the university of enrollment.

One of the advantages of this program is its affordability. The total fee for M.Tech for working professionals ranges from INR 1-2 lakhs, significantly lower than a regular M.Tech program, making it an accessible option, especially for those facing financial constraints. Another big advantage is that if you fulfil the eligibility criteria, then you can get direct admission without giving any entrance examination.

However, it is crucial to choose a university that holds approvals from government regulatory bodies like UGC and AICTE to ensure the validity of your degree. Here are some of the top universities in India offering M.Tech courses for working professionals in various specializations:

  1. Shri Venkateshwara University (SVU) Engineering
  2. Lingaya's Vidyapeeth Engineering
  3. BITS Pilani WILP
  4. Mangalayatan University
  5. Mewar University
  6. Apex University
  7. IGNOU

Conclusion

As a result, I’ve provided extensive instructions on how to apply to IIT Kharagpur’s MTech program. Additionally, I’d like to emphasize that you may pursue an MTech degree without taking any admission examinations, since most private schools, such as Shri Venkateshwara University, do not require students to take an admission test.

MTech part-time, MTech working professional, and similar courses are also offered to students who are unable to attend regularly scheduled sessions, and these courses are administered directly by the university. While IIT Kharagpur is unquestionably the greatest university for engineering students, numerous private universities also offer similar education at a reduced cost.
