Online MCA Eligibility & Duration
There are certain basic requirements for being eligible for an Online MCA program. These are more or less similar among various universities; however, it is advisable to check the details before making your decision.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications (BCA), Computer Science, or IT from a recognized university, college, or institution.
- Candidates without any computer science background are eligible to apply, on condition that they know Mathematics either at 10+2 or graduation level.
- The general requirement is an aggregate of about 50%, although this can be relaxed on the basis of certain categories like SC/ST/OBC/PwD.
- One has to be familiar with English as it will be the medium of instruction.
- Some universities conduct a foundation course for candidates not having a technical background, but this is not a mandatory criterion at all universities.
Duration of the Online MCA course
The standard duration of an online MCA program is usually 2 years divided into 4 semesters of about 6 months each. At the end of every semester, evaluation is conducted for each subject, and the course content of each semester progresses logically, starting with basic programming and computer fundamentals, going through tasks specialized to other semesters. Though the duration is two years, some universities allow students to take more time depending on the academic schedule and students’ achievements.
