Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra is among the oldest and most respected in India, in terms of its prestige, and is a private technical university. The institute was established in 1955 by the enterprising industrialist and philanthropist B.M. Birla, who has the mission to provide the world standard of technical education and promote innovation in the sphere of engineering and technology. BIT is a newly launched university having a UGC grant of this recognition and an NAAC grading of A. BIT is located on a 700-hectare campus at Mesra, on the outskirts of Ranchi in Jharkhand.

BIT has undergraduate programs in different fields of engineering, B.Tech (Lateral Entry also available), B.Pharm in Pharmacy and BBA at the undergraduate level.
