BITS WILP Online M.Sc in Information Systems

The Online M.Sc in Information Systems is a two-year specialization program provided by BITS Pilani WILP that deals with information technology and its applications through systems that handle the creation, management, and storage of information (data). The students get to learn the different technologies of information that have been defining the innovations from the past as well as the present ones. The program equips the student with the skills and knowledge that are required to carry out handling of IT applications. 

The student is trained based on a curriculum that encourages them to take up experiential learning to solve the challenges faced as an information systems professional and become a solution provider through the skills cultivated in this program. In addition to that, the student can avail of lab exercises that consist of exercises needed to practice programming, using simulation tools & analysis to conduct experiments that encourage an innovative mindset, and also learn system design.

The structure of the program is designed in such a way that the student develops a base in programming & mathematics. Then there are modules dealing with software development & computer science where the student gains skills required to be applied when working on software projects and also applies the concept & theories of computer science. There are assignments in which the student learns to use tools such as WireShark, NS2, StarUML, MySQL/ MongoDB, and Eclipse.

The electives offered under this program are Software for Embedded Systems, Computer Graphics, Data Storage Technologies & Networks, Multimedia Computing, Network Programming, Data Mining, Advanced Compilation Techniques, Parallel Computing, Advanced Operating Systems, Software Development for Portable Devices, Artificial Intelligence, and Management Information Systems.

The eligibility criteria for the BITS Pilani WILP Online M.Sc in Information Systems are given in the following:

• The candidate must be a working professional who is employed in the Information Technology industry.
• The candidate must be a degree holder in one of the following or their equivalent: BCA, B.Sc.
• The candidate should have been prepared in mathematics during their degree program.
• The candidate should have a minimum aggregate mark of 60% at his/her graduation.
• The candidate must have a minimum work experience of 1 year after completion of graduation.

The syllabus of the BITS Pilani WILP Online M.Sc in Information Systems lists courses based on information systems that are core-based, specialization-based, and elective courses. 

The examination pattern at BITS Pilani WILP programs is divided into three parts: Assignment / Quiz (Online), Mid Semester Test, and Comprehensive exam respectively. The weightage of each component is as follows Assignment / Quiz carries 15%, Mid Semester Test carries 35%, and Comprehensive Exam carries 50%. Each semester of the program conducts these three components to evaluate the overall theoretical and practical understanding of the student.
