Established in 1980 by the banking and political stalwart, Shri T. A. Pai, TAPMI is a prestigious private business school within the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and launched its first fully residential PGDM batch in 1984–85. The flagship offering is the two-year, fully residential MBA / PGDM with specializations in a number of domains such as General Management, Marketing, HRM, International Business, Banking & Financial Services, Technology Management, and AI & Data Science. TAPMI also offers BBA (Hons), an integrated undergraduate-to-MBA IPM, an online MBA (BKFS), and Ph.D. programs, as well as executive and faculty development courses. T.A. Pai Management Institute has a rigorous and comprehensive examination and evaluation pattern aligned with the international standards in management education. The institute emphasises continuous assessment and holistic evaluation to ensure students are not only intellectually sound but also to develop critical thinking, problem solving and leadership styles. The institute has a trimester system with the academic year divided into three terms. The MBA programme lasts for two years and consists of six trimesters. For each subject, evaluation consists of both internal and external assessment using quizzes, mid-term and end-term examinations, project work, case analyses, class participation, and group assignment.
Another interesting facet of the institute's academic evaluation is the relative grading. Students are graded in comparison to each other and cannot tell if they have failed or passed until final pd grades and results are displayed. This system encourages healthy competition and benchmarking of performance.
T.A. Pai Management Institute includes the evaluations of capstone projects and summer internships as part of the assessment for students. During the summer internship between first and second years, students are evaluated by the faculty and industry mentors based on student work, the report submission, and presentation.
