UGC Notice

B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is a 3-year and 4-year graduation program that prepares an engineer to deal with heavy tools, machinery work, automobiles, electric motors, aircraft, and vehicles to develop fuel-efficient vehicles, build advanced medical devices, and find sustainable energy solutions. The mechanical Engineer’s responsibility is to design a mechanical system that works safely, and efficiently to function smoothly at a reasonable cost. Hence one has to understand the principles related to energy, motion, and forces to develop machines, manufacturing processes, and production systems.

Thus, the syllabus of mechanical engineering is planned in such a way that learners can understand the manufacturing process, properties of materials, mechanics, and physics. In addition to that, b.Tech Mechanical Engineering also incorporates a wide range of concepts related to fluids mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, and fluid mechanics and control systems.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering program can be applied after the 12th standard or a diploma in mechanical engineering. In 12th standard, learners must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and scored 50 to 60 percent overall. After meeting the eligibility criteria, learners have to earn a valid score in entrance exams conducted by different universities. The most popular entrance exams are JEE Main and JEE Advance to enroll for the top-notch institutes for B.Tech Mechanical engineering. Top national and state-level institutes like IIT, MHT, CET, KCET, UGET, and GUJCET to name the most sought-after Mechanical Engineering entrance exams.

The best Mechanical engineering colleges are IITs and NITs like IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and NIT Rourkela. Apart from this, there are renowned institutes for Mechanical engineering such as BITS Pilani, DTU, VIT Vellore, and SRM Institute. In the case of diploma holders, students can apply for the university like Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth University and Sanskriti University. The average fees for Mechanical Engineering courses can cost an individual up to INR 10 lakh. In the Mechanical Engineering graduation program, aspirants are exposed to hands-on experience in the labs for a better understanding of the domain.

Mechanical engineers after completing the B.Tech program can explore more in sectors such as robotics, mechatronics, thermal engineering, and nanotechnology. And students can apply for jobs like Design Engineer, Product Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Quality Control, Power Plant Engineer, Production Manager, and Maintenance Engineer.
