To match the requirements of the changing times, universities have understood there is a need to upskill the workforce engaging in the engineering sector after completing their polytechnic certificate.
In India, some people don’t opt for the BTech 4-year program as they can’t afford it due to personal problems. Such learners go for a polytechnic diploma.
After working for a few years they realized their career is stagnant. In that case, they can enroll for the BTech Lateral Entry Program or BTech for Working Professionals.
Aspirants can apply for the BTech Flexible Timing program as approved by both regulatory bodies (UGC and AICTE) in India. So it is the responsibility of the learners to check the accreditation of the universities before getting admission to the BTech Flexible Timing program. Generally, the classes are conducted in the evenings and weekends and the program follows the hybrid mode.
The criteria are simple and the schedule for the BTech Flexible Timing is designed after including the needs of the working professionals:
Here are the best universities for the BTech for Working Professionals in India that allow students to balance their studies with professional commitments.
Universities (BTech for Working Professionals) | Fees (Per semester) |
Lingayas’ University | Rs 45,000 |
Shri Venkateshwara University WILP | Rs 38,500 |
Galgotias College | Rs 45,000 |

Students are suggested to consider their interests and skills that are required in their chosen BTech specializations before getting admission to a four-year/ three-year graduation program in their preferred educational institutes. If students are unable to pay the college fee, they can seek a scholarship offered by different universities/ institutes to complete their studies because this single decision impacts one's career throughout life.
Government Colleges have a limited number of seats so without an entrance exam it is not possible to enroll in the BTech program. Furthermore, it isn't sufficient to clear the entrance exam, students need to get the top rank for the premium institutions as seats are allotted on a merit basis.
Engineering aspirants are required to register for JEE Main, an entrance exam at the national level for engineering. Candidates must focus on scoring top-rank in JEE Main to get the above cut-off score for admission to their desired universities. If they can clear the JEE Main cut-off, aspirants need to apply for JoSAA Counseling for seat allotment.
The BTech Regural program is quite expensive, whereas the BTech WILP is a more cost-effective choice to pursue an engineering degree. Another benefit is that BTech WILP permits one to continue jobs besides enrolling for the graduation degree.
Be it private or government colleges, both present the best learning experiences by connecting learners with industry experts, project works, internships, and updated curricula. However, Btech government colleges are the first preference of the aspirants because of the lower fees as compared to private universities. But the point should be considered that private universities are offering better infrastructure.
There is no entrance exam for the BTech WILP program if applying for the program from universities like SVU WILP and Lingyaga’s Vidyapeeth University and both the universities are accredited by the AICTE and UGC. The BTech WILP course is popular for its flexible time to attend classes. A working applicant can enroll for the program and attend the classes on weekends and holidays while continuing their job.
There are multiple disciplines in engineering courses like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, and Electronics and Communication. However, it is not the program that matters but the subject interest of the students matters. After completing the graduation, they can join the top companies with the average package ranging between 4 lakhs and 12 lakhs depending on the learning of the candidates and roles attired to the candidates.
Jamia Millia Islamia and Jadavpur University are inexpensive colleges that a student can plan to study if looking for an affordable choice and doesn’t want to compromise the learning experiences.
