As such there is no upper age limit to pursue a doctoral degree in India as per the norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Although there is an upper age limit for fellowships and Scholarships such as Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), etc.
I hope this will help and also you can connect with me anytime. Happy to help :)

No, an individual cannot be too old to take a doctoral course. Generally, universities and schools welcome applications from applicants of any age as the focus is on past academic qualifications, research interests, and motivation, not the applicant's chronological age. Doctoral candidates are not strangers to being older than their peers; in many cases, people take on a doctorate later in life to achieve other personal goals, change careers, or make meaningful contributions to their field of knowledge. The life experience that comes with being an older candidate can help a doctoral candidate's research and ultimately perspective. Age will not be a barrier to completing a doctoral degree; it is more important to focus on the admission requirements, and if an older learner meets all of the requirements, that is the only thing that matters.
