MPhil and MSc are both postgraduate degrees and they differ based on academic focus. The duration of both programs is similar but they are designed to meet different academic aspirations. MPhil is designed to offer independent research in a given area whereas MSc is primarily taught degree focused on scientific subjects. MPhil degree is now no longer a recognized degree in India as the University Grants Commission (UGC) has revoked its legitimacy.
