MPhil and PhD are quite different courses from each other. MPhil stands for Master of Philosophy which is a post-graduate research-based program. It generally takes 2 years to complete this program. However, a PhD stands for Doctor of Philosophy and may take 3-6 years or more to complete depending on your capabilities and potential. To enroll in PhD, you need to have a master's degree. If you qualified a NET-JRF exam then you can avail of the scholarship in India.

Both, MPhil and PhD are degrees designed to offer opportunities for research in the selected areas. However, they differ based on their levels, research focus, duration, and recognition.

MPhil is a postgraduate level degree whereas a PhD is a doctorate level degree. MPhil focuses on developing expertise in a particular field but PhD involves extensive in-depth research. The duration of an MPhil is generally 2 years meanwhile the PhD stretches for 3 Years to 5 Years. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has stopped recognizing MPhil as a legitimate degree for new students. However, PhD is still a recognized degree.

If you are interested in a doctoral degree, you may also consider Online DBA which offers a flexible mode of learning. Online DBA is as equivalent to an On-Campus PhD Program.
