Quick Overview: Most comparison portals stop at listing universities and fees. College Vidya compares 100+ online universities too, but that is only the starting point. Since 2019, it has added so much, like the Board of Mentors who train its Career Development Advisors. CV Assured fee protection before admission, a stage-by-stage checklist for finalizing a university, and post-admission support until you complete your degree.
You open one portal. Then another. Then a third.
Same universities. Same fee tables. Same “Top 10 Online MBA Colleges” lists.
And somewhere between the fourth and fifth tab, a different question starts to nag you: “Okay, but which one is actually right for me? And what happens if something goes wrong after I pay?”
That is the question this blog is about. “How are we different from other portals?” is now one of the most common things our advisors hear on calls. It is a fair question, and it deserves a straight answer.
Here are the things that set College Vidya apart.
Why Do Learners Ask How College Vidya is Different?
Online education has grown fast in India. So has the number of websites that list universities.
Most comparison portals solve a search problem. They show you which universities offer a program and what it costs.
But a learner's real question is a decision problem:
- Is this program right for my career?
- Is this university valid and approved?
- Can I afford it, and can I pass it while working?
- What happens if the fee changes, or I need to withdraw?
College Vidya is built around these questions. Comparison is where we begin, not where we stop.
1. How long has College Vidya been focused only on online education?
Since 2019.
College Vidya started as a verified source of information on online universities. Unlike platforms that mix school, offline college, coaching and online courses, we have stayed focused on one category: online and distance higher education.
Here is how the platform has grown, step by step:
|
Year |
What happened? |
|
2019 |
Launched as a verified information source for online universities |
|
2020-21 |
Introduced personalised career counseling backed by expert mentorship |
|
2022-23 |
Crossed 9 million+ website visits and 1,00,000+ admissions, with a 500+ expert network |
|
2024 |
Built post-admission support and learner communities |
|
2025 |
Launched Sara, an AI assistant dedicated to online education, available 24/7 |
|
2026 |
Launched Pre-Admission Tools, College Vidya Assured and the Board of Mentors |
Why it matters to you: Seven years of working only with online universities means our advisors have seen how universities actually handle fees, exams, refunds, and results—not just what the brochure says.
So far, we have guided 1,25,000+ learners, clocked 1.5 crore+ minutes of 1:1 advisory, and earned a 4.7/5 Google rating.
2. What is the Board of Mentors, and who trains College Vidya's advisors?
On many portals, the person who calls you is a sales or tele-calling executive.
At College Vidya, the people who guide you are called Career Development Advisors (CDAs). Since 2026, our 600+ CDAs are trained by a Board of Mentors - a working group of industry leaders and academics.
Each mentor sharpens a different part of the advisor's judgement:
|
Mentor |
Background |
What they sharpen in our advisors |
|
Actor |
How perception and prestige quietly influence career choices
|
Education policy expert |
Accreditation, UGC-DEB status and regulatory checks
|
Career mindset coach |
Telling an information gap apart from a mindset block
|
Purpose-driven career advisor |
Keeping the final decision with the learner
|
Ex-IRS officer |
Guiding learners who feel they missed the "conventional" route |
There is also a review system behind this. Every month, we audit 2,000+ advisor conversations and flag any recommendation that is not backed by verified data or matched to the learner's goals.
Why it matters to you: You are not just getting university information. You are getting advice from someone trained to ask why you want the degree before telling you which one to pick.
3. What is CV Assured, and how does it protect you?
Two worries come up on almost every admission call:
"What if the fee goes up while I'm deciding?"
"What if I need to withdraw later?"
CV Assured is our answer to both.
Before admission: 5-day fee protection
- Tick "College Vidya Assured" when you submit your enquiry
- Take up to 5 days to compare, ask questions, and decide
- If the university fee rises in that window, College Vidya reimburses the difference up to ₹20,000
- If the fee drops, you simply pay the lower amount
After admission: guided refund and withdrawal support
- Help understand the refund percentage that applies to you under UGC norms
- Guidance on documents and on submitting the withdrawal request correctly
- Follow-ups with the university and formal escalation if a refund is delayed
- A dedicated post-admission resolution team of 40+ members
To make this possible, we have decoded 150+ university refund policies and supported 15,000+ learners after admission.
What CV Assured is not: It is not a refund guarantee. We do not issue refunds directly, override university policies, or bypass UGC timelines. The university processes the refund; we guide and track the process. Fee protection is capped at ₹20,000, and refund eligibility varies by university.
We would rather tell you the limits upfront than have you find out later.
4. Why does College Vidya use a checklist instead of a rank list?
Many portals show a "top 10" and leave the decision to you.
We break the decision into five stages and give you a tool for each one:
|
Stage |
What you do |
Tool you get |
|
Career suitability |
Find out which careers match your interests and background |
Career Finder |
|
Exploring universities |
Look beyond the brochure. |
Real student reviews and a virtual university expo with 100+ options |
|
Finalizing options |
Check what you are really signing up for. |
University checklist, live LMS experience, "Will I Pass?" tool |
|
Enrollment and finance |
Plan the money side. |
EMI calculator and discount coupons |
|
Post admission |
Settle into the course. |
Orientation, schedules, and support tools |
Every university is assessed on 30+ evaluation factors, such as approvals and accreditation, fees and total cost, eligibility, exam pattern, LMS quality, learner reviews, and refund policy. And we list only UGC-recognized universities.
Why it matters to you: A checklist makes sure nothing important is skipped. You confirm that the degree is valid, affordable, and passable before you pay, not after.
5. What support does College Vidya offer after admission?
For most portals, the communication ends the day you take admission.
For us, admission is a milestone. Degree completion is the finish line.
Through CV Care, enrolled learners get:
- Exam and date reminders so you don't miss important deadlines
- LMS guidance to access and use your university's learning platform
- Assignment tracking to help you stay on schedule
- Resume Builder to create a recruiter-ready resume
- Mock Tests to practice interview questions
- Job Portal and Internship Portal with verified openings based on your degree and experience
- Community learning to study with peers facing the same exams and timelines
Everything is available from the Learner Dashboard in your College Vidya account. For help, you can call the dedicated post-admission toll-free line at 1800 309 7947 or write to cvcare@collegevidya.com.
Should you choose a university with an AI chatbot or a counsellor?
AI tools make it easy to ask "Which online MBA is best?" and get an instant reply. We use AI too. Our assistant, CV Sara, is great for quick research on universities, fees, and eligibility at any hour.
But an admission is a costly, hard-to-reverse and long-term decision. You commit lakhs of rupees, often through EMIs or loans. Once the refund window under UGC norms closes, the fee is largely non-refundable. And the choice shapes 2 to 3 years of your time and your career after that.
An AI agent cannot understand your actual week, your budget, or why you want the degree. It may also work from outdated fees or deadlines, and it takes no responsibility if the advice turns out wrong.
Our view is simple: use AI to explore, and take the final decision with a Board of Mentors-certified counsellor. You can spot them by the "BOM Certified" badge on their profile, and your first 30-minute consultation is free.

Note: Features of other portals vary. This table describes what learners commonly report, not any single platform.
What is College Vidya, and what is it not?
College Vidya is an independent education guidance platform. We do not run academic programs.
Admissions, curriculum, fees, approvals, scholarships, and degree awards are handled by the respective universities. Our job is to help you compare, evaluate, and decide—and then stay with you after admission.
Conclusion
Comparison is something every portal offers.
What makes College Vidya different is everything around it: advisors trained by a Board of Mentors, CV Assured protection before and after you pay, a checklist that keeps you from missing key details, and support that lasts until your degree is complete.
Because an admission is costly and challenging to undo, use AI tools for research, but take the final call with a Board of Mentors-certified counsellor. A free 30-minute consultation is a good place to start.
