Biography

From an engineering degree to TVF Pitchers

Naveen Kasturia studied Manufacturing Process & Automation at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi. After college, he did what was expected: an analytics job at Inductis in Gurgaon, and later at JP Morgan Chase in Mumbai. On paper, his career was all set.

Then he left. First, he wrote and directed theatre. Then he moved to Mumbai, worked as an assistant director to Dibakar Banerjee on LSD and Shanghai, and co-wrote and co-produced the indie film Sulemani Keeda. People across India came to know him through TVF Pitchers and as Abhilash in TVF Aspirants. He has also worked in Bose: Dead/Alive, Breathe: Into the Shadows, Happily Ever After and Waah Zindagi. [Confirm all credits]

He chose a career that nobody around him had a map for, after a degree everyone called "safe". That is what he brings to College Vidya's Career Development Advisor training. Not as a life story, but as a lesson: what a career looks like on paper is often very different from what it becomes once you commit to it.

THE CONTEXT

Six mentors. One standard. Naveen teaches one part of it.

Every Career Development Advisor at College Vidya learns from the full Board of Mentors before taking a single call. Each mentor teaches one thing:

  • Aman Gupta: checking if a degree is worth the money
  • Dr. Vijender Chauhan: understanding what a learner is not saying
  • Himeesh Madaan: making a clear, long-term plan
  • Ravi Kapoor: discipline in giving advice
  • Amogh Lila Das: guiding with a calm, clear mind
  • Naveen Kasturia: how a course sounds vs what it actually does for you

Six lessons. One standard. The same on every call.

THE NAVEEN KASTURIA SESSION

What every Career Development Advisor learns from Naveen

A 16-minute session — recorded, re-watched by every new joiner, and re-run every quarter.

Every learner has their own story. A Career Development Advisor's job is to help them write the next chapter that truly works for them, not the one that only sounds impressive.

The line every College Vidya advisor is trained to bring into a call — from Naveen Kasturia's session on the Board of Mentors.

01

How it sounds vs what it does

Many learners say no to the right online degree because the course name, the online mode or the university does not sound impressive enough to their family. Naveen teaches advisors to separate how a course sounds from what it actually does for the learner's career.

02

Asking a better question

Changing the learner's question from "How does this course sound?" to "What will this course help me do in the next two years?" This session gives advisors simple words to make that shift.

03

Helping learners on different paths

A way to guide learners who feel stuck, behind or unsure: people a year or two out of college, people who want to change careers, and people returning to work after a break.

The problem this session solves

The costliest career mistake isn't a wrong choice. It's saying no to the right choice for the wrong reason.

isn't a wrong choice. It's a right choice, rejected for the wrong reason.

✕ What learners often say:

  • "Online degree easy lagti hai, log kya sochenge?"
  • "Isse achha toh koi bade naam wali university le loon, chahe fees double ho."
  • "Is university ka naam toh kabhi suna hi nahi, placement milega bhi?"
  • "Ghar waale kehte hain regular karo, warna resume achha nahi lagega."

✓ What a Career Development Advisor trained by the Board hears:

  • The worry is not about the course. It is about how the choice will look to others.
  • "Big name" often just means "feels safe". Real facts about the course help more than a famous name.
  • What matters: UGC-DEB approval, placement support, EMI options and credit transfer, not just reputation.
  • The family's concern is real. So the learner needs a simple explanation they can share at home.

Naveen's session does not tell advisors what to recommend. It helps them notice when a learner is about to say no to the right option for a reason that has nothing to do with the course itself.

How it changes the call

Our advisors were already good. The Board gave thembetter words

Every Career Development Advisor at College Vidya is trained to the same standard. Naveen's part shows up in one clear way: learners are helped to see past how a course sounds, so they don't turn down a right-fit online degree just because it doesn't sound 'big enough.'

Before

The advisor answers the question the learner asked.

After the session

The advisor also answers the real worry behind that question.

Before

"The most popular university gets recommended.

After the session

"The right-fit, UGC-DEB approved option gets recommended, and the advisor can explain why in one line.

Before

A family objection ends the call.

After the session

The advisor helps the learner with a simple way to explain the choice at home.

Before

A career change means "let's play it safe""

After the session

A career change means "let's plan the switch and what you'll need for it.
