Biography

From an IT job to a monk young India listens to

Amogh Lila Das did not start out as a monk. He started out in IT, with a regular job, appraisals, office commutes and a life that was going to plan. Then he chose a different path. He joined ISKCON as a monk and left his corporate life behind.

Years later, he came back into public view in a way no one expected: on YouTube, on TEDx stages, on podcasts and in college halls. He spoke to young Indians about the same questions he once heard in his office. Should I quit my job? Should I get married? Why can't I focus? Why does everyone else seem to have their life sorted?

He answered calmly, with no rush and nothing to sell. That is why so many young Indians trust him.

He brings this same approach to College Vidya's Career Development Advisor training. Not as spirituality, but as a working rule: if a learner is not ready today, the honest thing is to say so on the call. That honesty makes the call more useful, not less.

The context

Six mentors. One standard. Amogh teaches one part of it.

Every Career Development Advisor at College Vidya learns from the Board of Mentors before providing guidance to learners. Each mentor teaches one thing:

  • Aman Gupta: checking if a degree is worth the money
  • Dr. Vijender Chauhan: understanding what a learner is not saying
  • Himeesh Madaan: making a clear, long-term plan
  • Ravi Kapoor: discipline in giving advice
  • Naveen Kasturia: helping learners who feel stuck or unsure

Six lessons. One standard. The same on every call.

THE AMOGH LILA DAS SESSION

What every Career Development Advisor learns from Amogh Lila Das

A 19-minute session — recorded, re-watched by every new joiner, and re-run every quarter.

A learner who is not ready today is not lost. A learner who was told 'yes' when the honest answer was 'not yet' has been let down

The line every College Vidya advisor is trained to bring into a call — from Amogh Lila Das's session on the Board of Mentors.

01

Guide, don't push

When an advisor starts pushing, the learner stops thinking. Amogh teaches advisors how to give the learner space to reach the right answer on their own.

02

Saying 'not yet' on the call

How to communicate that a learner is not ready to commit to a course, and why this approach builds more trust and long-term relationships. How to tell a learner, kindly and clearly, that this is not the right time to enrol, and why this builds more trust than saying yes too early.

03

Is it ambition or anxiety?

How to tell whether a learner wants a course to build something, or is choosing it because they are scared of falling behind. Each needs a different conversation.

THE PROBLEM THIS SESSION ACTUALLY SOLVES

The most expensive career mistake in India

isn't a wrong choice. It's a right person, pushed into it before they were ready.

✕ WHAT LEARNERS WALK WITH

  • "Sab kar rahe hain, main peeche reh jaunga."
  • "Bhaiya kuch bhi karwa do, bas kuch shuru kar dun."
  • "Mind bhaut disturbed hai, bas ek decision le lo mere liye."
  • "Mujhe pata hai timing sahi nahi hai, but pressure hai."

✓ WHAT A BOARD-TRAINED CDA HEARS

  • FOMO is not a career strategy. Sit with it before you sell to it.
  • "Kuch bhi shuru kar do" is a red flag. Anything is not a plan.
  • A disturbed mind cannot pick a two-year commitment. First — pause.
  • Wrong timing named honestly is a better call than right timing sold aggressively.

Amogh's session doesn't teach advisors what to recommend. It teaches them the one thing a career guidance call in India rarely gets: permission to tell a learner, plainly, that today is not the day — and that College Vidya will still be here the month it is.

THE IMPACT — ON THE CALL, IN THE ROOM

The advisors were already good. The Board gave them a sharper vocabulary.

Every Career Development Advisor at College Vidya is trained in the exact same standard. Amogh's contribution shows up in one specific way: the calls end honestly. A learner today becomes an easy re-open in three months — because the learner remembers being told the truth, not sold to.

Before

Every call is a call to close.

After the session

Every call is a call to clarify. Some close. Some don't. Both are wins.

Before

"Not now" is treated as an objection.

After the session

"Not now" is treated as an answer — and logged as a reason, not a loss.

Before

Advisor talks past the learner's anxiety.

After the session

Advisor names the anxiety on the call, then waits.

Before

Enrolment feels like the end of the conversation.

After the session

Enrolment feels like the middle of one.

"Amogh sir's session gave me the one thing I didn't know I needed — permission to tell a learner, 'This is not the right month for you.' The first time I did it, the learner thanked me. He came back four months later and enrolled. I would never have believed that call was possible before."
