B.Tech Admission Process 2022

The process of B.Tech admission begins generally in March to May of a year. Almost every engineering examination is commenced from March to May of the calendar year. This includes the JEE exams, state engineering exams, and private universities and institute exams.

But this year things changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All the exams that were scheduled from March to May, were postponed until further notice.

As we have already told you that b tech admissions vary from institute to institute and state to state. Here are some important points regarding B.Tech college admission described below in detail:

Acceptability of Engineering Entrance Exam Score:  Among the various B.Tech colleges in India, the clear difference in the B.Tech admission process is the acceptability of Engineering Entrance Exam scores. Every engineering college has a different Btech admission process. Not every engineering college of India accepts the score of a single paper of JEE Mains.

Though the score of JEE Mains is widely accepted for B.Tech Admissions by most engineering colleges, there is some engineering college that has different Btech Admission procedure. Apart from the JEE Mains score, state-level engineering is popular among students. State Engineering Exams are the mode through which B.Tech admissions are done in state engineering universities. The state-level engineering entrance exams vary from state to state.

Multiple Engineering Entrance Exams and Score Acceptability:  In some states both national level and state-level engineering entrance exams scores are valid and B.Tech admission is done on both scores. For instance, B.Tech admissions in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra are based on JEE Mains/ Sate Engineering Entrance scores.

Himachal Pradesh is another state where 15% of seats are reserved for the students of JEE Mains. There are various private institutes that conduct their own exams as well as the JEE Mains score.

Direct Admission without Entrance/ B. Tech admission without JEE Main: Most of the private colleges have some seats reserved on which direct admission in Btech is done. These B.Tech admissions are treated as Management Quota admission. The B.Tech admission fees for management Quota is higher than the entrance based B.Tech admissions.

Centralized B. Tech Admission Process without Entrance: In many state-based and private B.Tech colleges, B.Tech admissions are not done on any entrance exams. In such college admission is done based on the merit of 10+2. In such colleges, b tech admission is done on the centralized admission process by cutoff decided by the colleges on the basis of application form filled by the students.

For example, Anna University of Tamil Nadu conducts a centralized Btech admission process, which Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions.

Which Is The Best Engineering Entrance Exam For B.Tech Admission?

The best engineering entrance exam depends on the student’s requirements and aspirations. If students want to secure admissions in government institutes such as IITs and NITs and other government-funded technical institutes, they must aim to rank themselves in the JEE Mains/ JEE Advance. But these institutes are located pan India so he must be willing to relocate himself to these institutes.

On the other hand, there are state-level engineering institutes that are for the students that want to remain in their state and pursue technical education. For example, if a student from Uttar Pradesh wants to remain in Uttar Pradesh he must appear in the UPSEE.

There are many private institutes such as BITS, VIT, and SRM University that conduct their own entrance exams to take B.Tech admission. These institutes provide better exposure to students from all over India.

Also, some institutes do not offer the branch of engineering that a student wants so he won’t be applying to that institute entrance exams. Thus from the above analysis, we can conclude that we cannot suggest which is the best engineering exam for a student as every student has a specific requirement and this decision is entirely bound to that only.

How to Apply for B.Tech Course?

If a student wants to apply for a b tech course, he must have a valid entrance exam score (national or state). Thus a student has to apply to the relevant engineering entrance examinations, depending on his requirement and need. Here are some examples related to the application for B.Tech admissions:

  • Application in IITs and NITs: To apply in the Btech course of IITs and NITs you have to apply for JEE Main and JEE Advance for IITs. The scorecard of JEE Main is also valid in other institutes as well. After the announcement of the result, students can visit the website and apply for the b tech admissions.
  • If the student is willing to join private institutes and universities he can apply for on the official website of that university. The university conducts the exams and the admission process is done separately.
  • If a student wants to take admission in state engineering exams he can fill the form for the state engineering entrance exams. After a valid scorecard, the admission process of every state engineering university starts.

Direct and centralized btech admission is also the mode of admission is also available in which the students can directly apply to university without giving any entrance exam to rank himself in the JEE Mains/ JEE Advance.
