Introduction

Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) are the best engineering colleges in India. There is huge competition among students for getting admission to this college and only a few students get a chance to learn from this college. This is because it is not quite easy to get into an IIT that has very less seats. You need to clear the GATE entrance examination with a high score to get into an IIT.

This examination is taken to check the comprehensive understanding of the students regarding various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission into the Master’s program and for the job of various public sectors.

Part-Time M.Tech

IIT is the best institution for M.Tech but not the only one in the country. It is highly difficult to get admission to an IIT because of the fierce competition. However, there are other private institutes in the country that offer direct admission without the need of any entrance exam. Such M.Tech courses are usually part-time M.Tech courses which are also commonly known as M.Tech for working professionals program.

There are several advantages to this program. The major one being that you can pursue this course without leaving your job. This is possible because it is a part-time course with a flexible schedule. The classes are held either on weekends or in the evening. The classes are delivered both online and offline. Maximum of the classes that are theoretical are conducted online while for practical training, there are offline sessions.

The course has been specifically designed for working professionals, but non-working professionals can also apply to this course in most colleges. The only condition is to fulfil the eligibility requirement which states that the candidate should have completed a B.Tech or BE in a relevant specialisation with at least 50% marks and from an approved university.

The duration of the course is the same as a regular M.Tech course which is 2 years divided into 4 semesters. Some universities have an extra semester, making the total duration 2.5 years. The course is duly recognised by the government and is considered of equal value as a regular M.Tech course. So there is no need to worry about the validity of your degree. You will be eligible for jobs across both private and government sectors.

Another great advantage of pursuing a part-time M.Tech course is that the fee is very less in comparison to a regular M.tech course. The total fee for the complete 2 year course is within INR 1-2 lakhs only, which is almost half of the fees for regular M.Tech. So, if you are not pursuing your M.Tech degree because of financial difficulties, then a part-time M.Tech is definitely a great choice for you.

However, you should be very careful in choosing an institute for this course. Not all colleges in the country get the approval to teach part-time M.Tech courses. You should get admission only to a college that is UGC/AICTE approved, otherwise your degree will not stand valid. To help you out, following is a list of some of the top UGC/AICTE approved universities in India that offer the part-time M.Tech course:

Wrap Up

So, here I have provided all the detailed information about how you can apply to IIT for the MTech course.
