Introduction

As India’s most known engineering institution, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is recommended to all students interested in becoming engineers and wishing to learn from the best engineering college. In short, IITs are the best institutions in India for engineering education both B.Tech and M.Tech.

This college accepts only a small number of students. Aspirants must study this article carefully in order to apply successfully for admission to IIT Patna’s MTech programme.

IIT Patna M.Tech Admission 2024

MTech is a postgraduate engineering degree that is only available to individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in technology (B.Tech/BE). To apply to IIT Patna’s MTech program, applicants must register separately on the institute’s official website and the GATE COAP 2022 portal.

As, it is a renowned institution, there are limited seats. So, the candidates are chosen based on their merit in the GATE examination, which describes a candidate's eligibility to pursue the course. So, it is compulsory for all candidates to give the GATE exam.

GATE registration usually opens online in April. Admission to the MTech curriculum does not require GATE results for the students who have attained their degree of BTech from IIT Patna. For direct admission to IIT Patna’s MTech program, they need to get a cumulative grade point average of 8.0 or higher.

Who can Apply?

  • Candidates who have obtained a passing score on the GATE test.
  • IIT Patna graduates with a B.Tech.
  • Candidates sponsored by various organizations designated as Research and Development units by the Department of Science and Technology, applicants supported by NIOT or educational institutions accredited by the AICTE/UGC/Government, or candidates sponsored by Government/Public Sector Undertakings.

Each candidate must fulfil tough admission standards in order to enrol in the MTech programme at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The following are the bare-bones credentials for your convenience:

  • Admission to IIT Patna’s MTech course requires GATE results.
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or architecture from an AICTE-accredited institution or a government-accredited institution.
  • Candidates with master’s degrees in Chemistry/Life Sciences/Mathematics/Physics-related subjects from UGC/Government-approved educational institutions may also sit for the GATE exam.
  • Candidates who have graduated or are about to graduate from IIT Patna with a B.Tech. degree and a CGPA of 8.0 or better are eligible to enrol in IIT Patna’s MTech programme without submitting a GATE score.
  • These applications will be evaluated by the relevant Department.

What is GATE?

GATE is an entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology on behalf of the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India, and the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE to determine admission to the MTech program.

GATE is an abbreviation for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This examination is designed to assess a student’s complete knowledge of a range of undergraduate engineering and science-related courses in preparation for entrance to a Master’s program and employment in a variety of government sectors.

GATE COAP

GATE submits all admission bids via the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Candidates must register on the COAP site following their entrance examinations for inspection and acceptance by IIT Patna. COAP membership is completely free.

It is strongly recommended that the candidate obtain a copy of the COAP 2022 information booklet and adhere to the Participation Guidelines. COAP, on the other hand, is not a platform for M.Tech admissions.

It is merely a means of acquiring information regarding the GATE Examination results and cut-off lists for IIT Patna. COAP registration number is a mandatory field when applying for M.Tech admission at IIT Patna.

Part-Time M.Tech

If you are a working professional and do not have the time to pursue a 2 year full-time M.Tech program, then you need not worry because you have a great option of pursuing a part-time M.Tech program. The course has been specially designed for working professionals so there is complete flexibility with classes being held on weekends or in the evenings.

There is a combination of live online classes and offline classes on campus for practicals and laboratory sessions. The live online classes are recorded as well so that students who miss the lecture can later on see the video recordings of the lecture. The online classes take place through a digital platform called the Learning Management System (LMS). All the recordings and all the other study material are also available on this LMS. So, it is like a virtual classroom.

This part-time course is a blessing for working professionals because they do not have to leave their jobs for higher studies. And after the completion of the course, they become eligible for promotions to higher level positions from their current position in their job. Another big advantage is that the fees for a part-time M.Tech course is quite low. The entire 2-year course can be completed within a fee of INR 1-2 lakhs only.

For admission to a part-time M.Tech course, there is no need to give an entrance exam. You will get direct admission if you fulfill the required eligibility criteria of the university, the basic criteria being a degree in B.Tech/BE. Some of the top and UGC/AICTE approved colleges that provide the M.Tech part-time course in several specialisations are:

Conclusion

Well without any doubt IIT Patna is the best university for engineering students but there are also other private institutions that offer comparable education of engineering at a lower cost.

Additionally, I’d like to emphasize that you can pursue an MTech degree without taking any entrance exams, since the majority of private institutions, including Shri Venkateshwara University, do not require students to take an entrance test.

MTech part-time, MTech working professional, and similar courses are also available to students who are unable to attend regularly scheduled sessions and are managed by the university directly. As a result, I’ve included detailed knowledge on how to apply to the MTech program at IIT Patna.
