Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa was established in 2016 by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (GoI) as an institute of national importance. The mission of IIT Goa is to provide a unique learning experience to the students. IIT Goa has been offering Ph.D. programs in Engineering, Science, and Humanities & Social Sciences since 2018-19. The institute provides facilities for advanced research in these areas.

Academic Calendar that IIT Goa Follows- 

The academic year runs from July to April and is divided into two semesters:

• Autumn Semester: Late July to late November.
• Spring Semester: Early January to late April.

Each semester lasts about 16 weeks. During the first year, students must take specific courses listed in the curriculum for each semester.

The Ph.D. program is comprehensive, involving both coursework and a research thesis. Students need to complete a minimum number of credits as part of their coursework.

• Grades: Students earn grades on a 10-point scale.
• Semester Performance Index (SPI): This is the average of grades for all courses taken in a semester.
• Cumulative Performance Index (CPI): This is the overall average of grades across all semesters since joining.

Who All Are Eligible To Apply At IIT Goa PhD?

1. Educational Qualifications: You must have one of the following:

For Engineering/Technology:

• A Master’s degree with at least 60% marks or 6/10 CPI (55% or 5.5/10 CPI for SC/ST).
• A Bachelor’s degree with 70% marks or 7/10 CPI (65% or 6.5/10 CPI for SC/ST).

For Science, Arts, or Social Sciences:

• A Master’s degree with 60% marks or 6/10 CPI (55% or 5.5/10 CPI for SC/ST).

2. Additional Requirements: You also need to fulfill specific criteria based on your stream: 

For Engineering:

• A valid GATE score in a relevant stream if your degree is B.E., B.Tech, MCA, or M.Sc.
• Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from agencies like CSIR, UGC, or others.
• B.Tech or Dual Degree from IIT with a CPI of 8.0 or higher.
• At least 2 years of work experience in a relevant field (after your degree and before the semester starts).

For Science:

• A valid GATE, CSIR-NET, UGC-NET, or JEST score in a relevant stream.
• JRF from CSIR, UGC, or similar agencies.
• If you’re still pursuing your degree, you can apply as long as you graduate before the program begins.
• B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing from IIT with a CPI of 8.0 or more.

For Humanities and Social Sciences:

• Qualified UGC-NET or GATE in Economics.
• Candidates with UGC-NET/JRF are strongly encouraged to apply.
