Kannammal Educational Trust started with the name Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College. Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College was started in the year 1988 while Thai Moogambigai Dental College was started in 1991. Later, both colleges got the status of Deemed University in the year 2003 as named Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute by the University Grants Commission of New Delhi & Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India (MHRD, GOI) New Delhi.
