What Is ME/M.Tech?
ME (Masters of Engineering) or M.Tech (Masters of Technology) is a 2-year postgraduate professional degree in engineering. The aspirants are required to have a bachelor’s degree in technology (BE/B.Tech) for joining the M.Tech course with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized university. The course can be accomplished based on a full-time or part-time course depending upon the preference of the student.
The student can choose any of them according to their flexibility. Both the full-time and part-time courses are valid in the job market. The students can apply for higher studies (PhD) after completing the M.Tech course. The Master’s of Technology course is designed to train the students in various aspects of technology. The course will provide a detailed understanding of upgraded technology to the students.
The students will learn many skills like communication skills, project management skills, creative skills along with the studies that will help them to enhance their career. The M.Tech course will focus on educating the students in such a manner so that they can be professional technologists in the future. The students will also learn how to convert theoretical knowledge into practical life.
However, the greatest advantage of an M.Tech course is that it gives you deeper knowledge of specific topics and domains within a single specialisation. The benefit of this is you will be able to get advanced job roles within your role, which automatically means that you get paid higher than before. In this case, a part-time M.Tech is a lot more beneficial because you can pursue it along with your job. So, a part-time M.Tech course is your chance at getting that long-awaited and much-needed promotion.
M.Tech admission follows the entrance-based criteria for admission. Before applying to the Masters of Technology course in any university the students need to clear an entrance test. The most popular entrance exam for M.Tech admissions in a top university is GATE. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an India-based entrance exam for admission in M.Tech course.
Other state bases or universities based entrance exams for admission in M.Tech courses are AP PGECT, TS PGECT, VITMEE, Karnatka PGECT, OJEE, TENSET, etc. The student must clear one of the entrance exams to get admission to the M.Tech course.
However, if you decide to take admission to a part-time M.Tech program, then you do not need to give an entrance exam. You get direct admission based on your merit in your last qualifying examination (BE/B.Tech). At some universities, it is compulsory for you to have full-time work experience of at least 1-2 years. This is not a compulsion in all universities so even fresh B.Tech graduates are eligible for a part-time M.Tech course.
M.Tech degree will help the students to become professional after completing the BTech. In some top industries, a Masters’s degree is required for recruitment. After completing the BTech course student can get the job but not at a high level. M.Tech’s degree will provide them a high-class job and good salary packages.
M.Tech Courses Details
Masters of technology courses focus on training the students in the technology field. The curriculum of the M.Tech course is designed to give detailed information to the students and train them in domain-specific skills to become a professional.

M.Tech Distance Education
The distance education M.Tech course is not valid as per the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grant Commission (UGC) guidelines. M.Tech can be pursued through traditional regular classes or hybrid learning education but not in a completely distance learning mode. This is because you need practical learning also in this course which is not possible with distance learning. In place of distance M.Tech, there is part-time M.Tech which is a combination of online and offline learning. The curriculum, subjects, and time duration all are the same.
The Master’s of Technology course is about theoretical as well as practical knowledge. The practical training needs physical appearance and laboratories which is not possible to provide during distance learning M.Tech. Engineering is based on more practical skills with theoretical knowledge so the AICTE and UGC have declared the distance degree invalid.
