Andhra University was established 97 years ago in 1926 by the Madras Act and is one of the oldest and most esteemed educational institutions in India.  It has been ranked as the 43rd best university in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The university has been awarded an A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to offer its courses in the online mode.

The university currently offers bachelor's degrees, a BCom (Accountancy), and a master's degree (M.A. Sociology) as part of its online programs to students. Out of which the College of Arts and Commerce is the largest one, consisting of 26 internal departments that provide courses in 42 different subjects, including diplomas. The College of Science & Technology has more than 21 different departments offering 63 study programs and a PG diploma. While the College of Engineering includes 15 departments offering UG, PG, and research programs.

The university has various colleges, out of which the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the most unique type in South India, offering one undergraduate and six postgraduate programs.
