The main objective of the university was to promote interdisciplinary higher education with a major focus on the subjects related to ecology, environment, and life sciences.
The Maharshi Dayanand University's main objective since day one was to spread quality education across the nation offer education to the unreached section of society and give an opportunity to the the students who are unable to pursue their higher studies due to lack of facilities or funds, and to overcome these hindrances the university started offering online and distance education programs under its Centre for Distance and Online Education department.

The examination pattern followed at Maharshi Dayanand University is the most commonly opted examination pattern, which includes two major components that is internal assessment and end-term examinations.
The internal assessment is conducted to evaluate a student's practical understanding throughout a semester and it carries approx 20-30% of the total weightage which also includes the assignments, that are assigned to every student at the beginning of every semester, whereas the end-term examinations are conducted to evaluate the overall theoretical understanding of a student and it carries 70-80% of total weightage.
