Searching for a recognized and inexpensive state university in West Bengal to pursue higher studies. West Bengal State University (WBSU), located at Barasat, North 24 Parganas, offers a multitude of options in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in arts, science, commerce, education, and management streams. WBSU was founded by the Government of West Bengal in 2008 and is a recognized public university under UGC. It is well-known for low fees, quality academics, and slowly building an affiliation of over 55 colleges.

The university follows an academic structure under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS). The academic structure based on CBCS ensures that not only does the university meet the standards of education in the country, while gives flexibility to the student in the academic programs they want to follow. In this blog, you will find full details of the courses in WBSU along with the admission process, fee structure, rankings, and placements in WBSU as a whole. This should provide more than enough information for future students to make an informed decision.

About the University:

West Bengal State University (WBSU) is a public university situated in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. It was established by the Government of West Bengal in 2008 under the Act XXVIII of 2007 of West Bengal.

The university, as an affiliating university, governs over 55 undergraduate and postgraduate colleges in the area. It is primarily established to ensure decentralized higher education and equity and access to higher education for students from marginalised suburban and rural areas.

The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and over the years, has gained a reputation for providing quality education at an affordable cost in West Bengal. It offers a wide range of academic bases with programs in the arts, sciences, commerce, management, and education.

The university adopts the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) in all of its programs, ensuring easy academic realization for students, regular curriculum development, and student-centric learning. As an institution that centres on inclusion and the higher education needs of a rural and suburban area, WBSU has become an institution of choice for higher education for students in North Bengal. With the upskilling of its academic process, quality of faculty, and a fee structure that is less than credible, it has become an obvious choice for many ordained students.

Why Choose the West Bengal State University?

WBSU is now the university of choice for all students, especially for those who come from the poorer sections of society, and to understand why, consider the following:

  • UGC and Government University Status: A fully-fledged state government university with UGC recognition, providing recognised degrees locally and internationally.
  • Affordable Quality Education: WBSU offers affordable education with semester fees between INR 1,500–INR 5,000.
  • Affiliated Colleges: A university with many government and private colleges located in the North 24 Parganas district, which is accessible to students locally.
  • Well-Qualified Academics and Research Opportunities: Numerous faculty members have earned their PhD and individual department awards for PhD research, as core to students completing an academic program and counterparts to visit seminars.
  • Equity and Inclusion: It has several different reservation and scholarship national and self-generated schemes for SC/ST/OBC, female students, or for differently abled students, or staff.
  • Library and Technology: WBSU has a sound library system, access to a well-catalogued and air-conditioned reading room, and support for people who promote online databases and educational resource sharing programs, including INFLIBNET and N-LIST.
  • Examination and curriculum updating: WBSU academic workflows model continuous audits of academic programs and arrangements for an updated curriculum that is uniform regarding national academia.
  • Career and Higher Study Support: WBSU's role in coordinating out-placement services for students is not obvious, but WBSU provides career counselling services.
