- Distance education demands that you attend college/regional centers for weekend/evening classes, but for online education, there is no need to visit the college even once during your course duration.
- Examinations are conducted at the university campus or regional centers in case of distance education programs, while in online, AI-proctored exams are conducted.
- No virtual learning support, instead of study materials (hard & soft copies), are available in distance learning courses, but in online learning, you have 24*7 access to recorded lectures, a highly efficient LMS portal, and even placement assistance services.

There is a big difference between online and distance education. Online education is offered totally in online mode, no need to visit the university for examination, assignments submission and project submission. While in distance education, the candidate must visit the university for examination, assignments, and project submission. In Online education, the candidates will get the lectures and live classes online on weekends, while there is no such provision in distance education. In Online education, you get study material and full support from the teaching faculty, live interactive sessions, and help from the staff just like in on-campus education mode, however, in distance education, the support from the universities and interaction by the universities is minimal.

The three major differences between distance and online education include:
- Online education involves real-time or recorded sessions where students communicate with the teacher in real-time, whereas distance education involves minimal interactions, and students attend physical classes
- Online learning utilises online written materials and assessment that can be delivered through the internet, whereas distance study is often through actual material supplied by post.
- With online education, assessment is usually done online, and there will be provision of resources at once, but distance education could have assignments handed in offline or at local centres, where there will be less immediate teaching and more self-pacing.
