Periyar University is a government university situated in Salem, Tamil Nade, and was established in 1997. Periyar University is a renowned university in the southern part of India and offers education through three different modes, i.e., Departments of Study and Research, the affiliated Colleges, and Periyar Institute of Distance Education (PRIDE).

Periyar University established Periyar University Centre for Online and Distance Education (PUCODE) as its directorate for distance education. Online Education at Periyar University started functioning in 2001-2002. The Periyar University Online Education is UGC-DEB approved, received NIRF 63rd Ranking, accredited “A++” by NAAC, and AICTE approved university.
