Punjab Government has constituted I.K Gujral, Punjab Technical University (IKG-PTU) in 1997 by an Act of State Legislature to address the issue of the shortage of Technical & professional workforce and to escort into a new era of Industrial Development comparable to International Standards.
The mission of the university is to train the students in such a way so that they can become professionals in their field.
The university also generated its Directorate of Distance Education for those students who want to take regular classes but want to join the university to pursue higher degrees. The Directorate of Distance Education established by Punjab Technical University is recognized and acknowledged by the University Grant Commission and Distance Education Bureau for offering various distance programs to students.
The university offers various distance learning postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma courses to the aspirants. All the courses offered by the university through distance mode of education are valid and approved by the University Grant Commission – Distance Education Bureau and AICTE.

How to take admission to PTU Distance Education?
To be admitted to Punjab Technical University, Distance Education Bureau you first need to review the conditions of admissibility for the course in which you want to pursue the degree.
You have to take the following procedure once you are sure of your eligibility for the course.
- For getting admission you need to visit the DDE Punjab Technical University website and go through the prospectus of the university.
- First, you must register and create a user ID and a password as a new applicant.
- You must log in to the portal once you have successfully registered on the portal.
- Upon signing in, you have to fill in the information and upload a self-tested photo, signature and scanned documents.
- After the upload process is done, a fee payment portal will appear on your screen to pay the fees according to the course.
- After payment is made, the submitted documents are checked by the university and the applicants receive a confirmation mail or SMS about entry into the registered email and contact number once the verification has been carried out.
- You can download your ID card from the official website following the confirmation letter.
The admission can be also done offline. For that, the applicants need to take out the prin of the prospectus of the university. The prospectus can be found on the website of DDE Punjab Technical University. There is a form that is attached to the end of the prospectus. Applicants need to fill up that admission form.
Then the applicants need is to post the to the university address, along with a demand draft for the fee, drawn in favor of The Registrar, IKGPTU, payable at Jalandhar. Do not forget to mention the name of the course, name of the candidate, course applied for, mobile number, and email ID on the flip side of the demand draft.
