The Dibrugarh University is the easternmost university in India, situated in Assam and was established in 1965. The Dibrugarh University was enacted by the Assam legislative assembly act 1965. The university holds an immense popularity among the eastern region of India with its excellence in the educational sector with its study centers with a reputation in multi disciplinary fields with enormous theoretical perspectives, diversity in culture, and top notch quality of knowledge.

The Dibrugarh University has its Directorate of Open and Distance Learning(DODL) for offering distance and online learning which was established in 2001. The vision behind the distance learning initiative by the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning of Dibrugarh University was to reach the unreached, and offer an opportunity to those students who are willing to pursue their further studies but couldn’t do so, due to their circumstances.

The examinations held by the Dibrugarh University follows the commonly opted examination pattern used by other distance education university which includes two major components of internal assessment and end-term examination.The internal assessment includes the assignments, and internal practicals that are held at the beginning of a semester which carries 20-30% of total wieghatge and remaining wieghtage is occupied by the end-term examinations. Students have to follow all the rules and regulations mentioned on the official website of the university, as they are slightly changed and updated by the university in every semester.
