English and Foreign Languages University Distance Education

EFLU, The English & Foreign Languages University, was established in 1958 in Hyderabad, as the Central Institute of English(CIE). This University gave shape to the vision of India’s Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to bring quality education training in Foreign languages especially English and literature as well. He wanted the students of the University to have the research, instructional, and extension facilities in the teaching of English so that the students would get interested in literary and cultural studies. 

Not only the regular training programs for teachers, it sets a benchmark through its conferences, courses, and updated syllabus. This institution was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in 1972, with three other languages German, French, and Russian. 

In the year 1973, this institution got a status of deemed to be a university and later set up two new campuses of the University at Shillong in 1973 and in Lucknow in 1979. This venturing of the campuses in the new territories helped to cater the education in the areas in North and North-East states. In the year 2006-2007, this institute got the status of Central University (Act of Parliament) and was named English & Foreign Languages University. It gives training to the students in 10 foreign languages viz, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Korean,  Chinese, German, Persian, Japanese, and Italian. 

Currently, the University has around 7 schools and 26 departments. This institute offers various graduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diplomas, degrees, research programs, and degrees in language programs. Currently, the institute has 3 campuses, in Hyderabad(main headquarters), Lucknow, and Shillong. The University is offering an M.A. in English, PGCTE, PGDTE, and many more. M.A. in English offers subjects like Linguistics, Mass Communication, Critical Humanities, Psychology, liberal arts, and many more. 

The University offers many opportunities to the students. It offers placement and job options to newly graduated students and students enrolled in their final year. The placement cell of the University works as a bridge between the human resource department’s personnel of top industries and gives invitations to them to visit the University for the recruitment and talent search process. They also include people who are interested in recruiting college students at their own will. 

They keep the students updated regarding the placement events. They organize lectures and workshops for the students that encourage them to participate in such organized events. The University undergoes the evaluation process in two different steps. They give a particular schedule that states the dates of examination, the submission date of the assignment, and other assessments. The submission of the assignments is done at the study center of the University. Students need to submit the assignments and appear for the examination at the study center and exam center respectively.
