Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University known as YCMOU, short, was established on 1st July 1989 through the Maharashtra State Legislature Act. The University is beautifully located in an area of 147 acres near Gangapur Dam close to Nasik City. The campus is close to nature surrounded by lush green areas. The University is also known by the name ‘Dnyangangotri’, which means river of knowledge.
This is approved by the University Grants Commission Act. Known to be the 5th Open University of India, the university offers affordable courses to students. There are many higher education to people of India at an affordable cost by eliminating all the hindrances that people face, like age, entry requirements, place, gender, pace of study, or anything else. This is a self-financed University that is working under the Government of India, (Ministry of Higher & Technical Education).
This institution is a member of many prestigious organizations like the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), and the International Council for Distance Education (ICDE). University offers many undergraduate and postgraduate certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and Ph. D.s in many specializations like Science, Commerce, Arts, Humanities, Language, Finance, and many more.
Overall, the university offers more than 115 courses in total in distance learning mode. For the convenience of the students, the University has opened many regional centers in many places in Maharashtra, like Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Mumbai, Nanded, Kolhapur, and Pune. The regional centers are very well equipped with all the basic facilities like staff support, maintained infrastructure, and many more. The University has many departments the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, School of Commerce & Management, School of Agricultural Sciences, School of Education, School of Computer Sciences, School of Sciences, School of Health Sciences, and many more.
The University has been honored with the YCMOU- COL Award of Institutional Excellence, Vishakha Kavya Puraskar, Baburao Bagul Gaurav Puraskar, Rukmini Puraskar, Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Smruti Puraskar, Dnyandeep Puraskar, Shramseva Puraskar. It has also collaborated at the international level with the tie-ups of certain prestigious institutions with the University like Commonwealth of Learning Canada, Brock University, Canada, International Food Policy Research Institute for the Global Open Food and Agriculture, the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, Athabasca University, Canada, The Chartered Management Institute of London.
