Madurai Kamaraj University Distance Education

Madurai Kamaraj University is a state university situated in Madurai City and was established in 1965. Madurai Kamaraj University established its DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION for offering distance education in 1971. Initially, Madurai Kamaraj University Distance Education Department was known as The Institute of Correspondence Course and Continuing Education but in 1996 it got its present name.

Madurai Kamaraj University Directorate of Distance Education is recognized by the University Grant Commission and Distance Education Bureau under which it offers multiple courses. Distance education at Madurai Kamaraj University is also accredited with an “A” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and received the status of “University for Potential Excellence”. 

 

The various program offered at the Madurai Kamaraj University distance education have various specializations and also includes undergraduate, postgraduate, postgraduate diploma, diploma, and certificate programs which combinedly are 100+ courses. 

The main objective of distance education at Madurai Kamaraj University is to provide education to all the students across the nation who are willing to pursue higher education and further enhance their skills for a better future prospect but unable to enroll themselves in a regular program and for their assistance the university set up their distance education department.

Madurai Kamaraj University has a well-maintained and structured fee structure for every program in distance education. The Directorate of Distance Education has implemented fees in such a way, that it becomes affordable and pocket friendly for every student and working professionals. Distance education at Madurai Kamaraj University does not provide any financial support in terms of loans but there are several scholarships available, which any eligible student can avail. 

These scholarships are:

• Scholarship for students with disabilities.
• Minority scholarship.
• Post-Matric National scholarship for minorities.
• Government scholarships.

The examination pattern of the Madurai Kamaraj University Distance Education consists of two major components, i.e. internal assessment and end-term examination. The internal assessment carries 20-30% of the total weightage of a semester and the rest weightage is under the end-term examination. 

The internal assessment is conducted to understand the theoretical and practical implications of a program that students have undergone and they are evaluated through assignments, quizzes, etc whereas the end-term examination is conducted to judge the overall performance of a student according to the program they are enrolled in.
